Financial Assistance

EMA’s financial assistance committee determines the number and amount of awards provided. All sensitive information and award results are confidential. The committee makes every effort to meet the needs of all EMA musicians and families.

Financial Aid Application Process

  • Financial need, not ability or talent is the qualification for need-based financial aid.
  • You may apply for financial aid throughout the year.
  • You must submit an application with your latest federal tax return or other proof of income.
  • There is no fee charged when applying for financial aid.
  • The committee uses a sliding scale for need-based awards. If you qualify, you will need to register and make a payment before the first lesson/class/rehearsal. Payment plans are available.
  • The financial aid award is valid for the entire academic school year (September-August).
  • If you cancel or do not begin instruction, then you do not receive the financial aid and you must apply again.

Criteria for Determining Financial Aid Awards

  • Family income demonstrated by most recent tax return, paycheck stub, or other proof of income
  • Number of people in the applicant’s household
  • Special circumstances such as illness, loss of job, pending divorce, business closure, etc.

Expectations of Financial Aid Recipients
Your financial aid award is dependent on your ability to fulfill these expectations. If you are unable to meet these requirements, financial aid may not continue or be granted in the future.

  • Regular attendance at lessons. Financial aid may not continue after three unexcused absences.
  • Demonstrated commitment to your musical studies through:
    1. Consistent practice
    2. Bringing your music to all lessons/classes/rehearsals
    3. Participation in recitals and concerts
    4. Cooperation with the instructor
  • Timely payment of tuition. It is the recipient’s responsibility to pay before the first lesson or arrange a payment plan.
  • Participation in performances at fundraising, outreach, or special events, if requested.
